Maya First Coffee
Funding and Support Products
Since it's formalization in 2011, funding for our organization and its various projects has fallen completely on the shoulders of the founders and from the sales of our support products. We have created a line of chocolate bars, coffees, and our high-pH, electrolyte-rich, naturally pure Wisconsin spring water, in half liter and 1 liter bottles (We generally do not ship the water, which is available only locally). The sales of these products have helped pay the tuition for several Mayan students at the schools in San Antonio, Belize. We were finally granted our 501(c)3 status in April of 2014, since then we have been applying for grants to help fund our current and future projects in Belize. As everyone knows, our economic recovery has been very slow and money is tight everywhere, but we remain hopeful that we will be able receive the funding necessary to continue our mission to help the Mayan children in Belize. In the meantime, enjoy our products and help support our efforts!
Why Maya First Coffee?
My name is Jay Krieger (AKA “Alcayantho”), I have traveled extensively throughout Central America for over 25 years and although I have had many wonderful experiences, there has always been one thing that disappointed me; I could never find a good cup of coffee! Even in Costa Rica and Guatemala! It was always hit and miss at best. Because of the tropical environment, roasting coffee is difficult. I learned that the better coffee beans are usually exported. Making several trips to Central America each year working with the Maya First Children’s Charity, I would bring my own coffee with me. I realized that if I were to start exporting really good coffee back to Central America, the sales could directly benefit the native Mayan people! The idea reminds me of the Songbirds of Wisconsin that migrate to Central America to winter over every year, only to return home in the spring.
Now, our sensational new coffee will make a similar migratory journey from Central America here to Wisconsin to be flame-roasted, blended to perfection, and to return home to Central America, and to the rest of the world as a premium, world-class coffee. I know that next time I travel to Central America, I can finally have a really good cup of coffee, without having to bring it along
